1. Prep the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into evenly sized chunks so they cook uniformly.
2. Boil Until Tender
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add salt generously.

3. Drain and Steam Dry
Drain the potatoes and let them sit for about 5 minutes. This helps excess moisture evaporate and prevents watery mashed potatoes.
4. Mash While Hot
Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer.
Add the softened cream cheese and butter immediately while the potatoes are still hot.
5. Add Warm Milk or Cream
Slowly stir in the warm milk or cream until the potatoes reach your preferred consistency.
Avoid overmixing, which can make mashed potatoes gluey.
6. Season and Finish
Season with salt and pepper.
For extra flavor, stir in roasted garlic, chives, or Parmesan.
