Ingredients
- 1–2 inches fresh ginger root (sliced or grated)
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- Optional:
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 teaspoon honey
Step 1: Prepare the Ginger
Wash the ginger thoroughly. You may peel it if desired, though the skin can also be used after cleaning.
Slice the ginger thinly or grate it for a stronger flavor and more intense infusion.
Tip: Grated ginger releases more flavor and active compounds into the water.
Step 2: Boil the Water
Bring 4 cups of water to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
Step 3: Simmer the Ginger
Add the ginger to the boiling water. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes.
For a stronger concentrate, simmer up to 30 minutes.
Step 4: Strain and Cool
Remove from heat and strain the liquid into a cup or bottle using a fine mesh strainer.
Allow it to cool slightly before drinking.
Step 5: Add Optional Ingredients
Enhance the flavor and freshness with:
- Lemon juice for a citrus boost
- Honey for light natural sweetness
Avoid adding refined sugar or sugary syrups if your goal is weight management.
